Critical Incident Stress Management
Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) is a timely supportive crisis intervention process for those who are feeling overwhelmed as a result of being exposed to an event that is outside their normal range of experience. Such critical incidents include but are not limited to a sudden death in the workplace or school, injury, violence or threats of violence. Employers have a Duty of Care under the Health & Safety Act 1989 to provide appropriate support to those who have experienced a critical incident.
As a trained and certified Critical Incident Stress Management Practitioner I can support those affected by a traumatic event through facilitating a Critical Incident Debriefing session on-site. The focus of the debriefing session is to give participants the space to process the impact of the critical incident and to normalise their reactions with the ultimate aim of enhancing their coping skills and facilitating their psychological recovery in a timely manner.
Participants will be given practical advice how best to care for themselves going forward. Arrangements will be made for any follow up support that may be needed, either as a group or on a one to one basis.
